The Korowai Tribe of Papua is among the most unique tribes we found so far in Irian Jaya, West Papua, Indonesia. They are living high up on the trees which they built on the tree trunks. A treehouse will remain to be used for about 3 years, or till the tree is eaten by the termites. A Korowai treehouse is made of wood and tree bark, plus some bamboo and sago leave for the roof. The house can be about 10 m or 20 m or higher from the ground level.

Important information
We will explore some places in the interior of the traditional village through the villager's footpath. It may be muddy, puddles and crossing wooden bridges. Prepare yourself for all possibilities that may occur.

DAY 1: TIMIKA – EWER/ASMAT (-/L/D)
In the morning base on local schedule, transferred by car to the Airport for the flight to Ewer for about 50 minutes. Arrival in Ewer, we still need a short transfer from the Airport to the capital of Asmat. Our lunch will be in the small warung. In the afternoon, we visit the very interesting Asmat Museum, which collects a large amount of unique Asmat artifacts. The collection gives a very good overview of the different Asmat cultures and handicraft styles. We go for a walk through the city where there is not a single car until today! Dinner in a local warung. Accommodation at simple hotel. (by Flight 50 minutes)
DAY 2: AGATS/ASMAT – YASAKOR (B/L/D)
Today we spend by boat until we reach nearest village, a Asmat settlement with three mighty men’s houses. After our arrival, the villagers bring all their art treasures to the men’s house and open an ad-hoc bazaar with carved wooden statues, traditional drums, shields, weapons, jewelry or bags. Visitors often have a good chance to find interesting objects at reasonable prices which cannot be found in the stores in larger cities. After lunch in the village, we continue on to Yasakor. There should be enough time for a short walk to the other men’s houses where you can find more handicrafts. (by motorized canoe 4-5hours)
DAY 3: YASAKOR – WOWI (B/L/D)
Today we continue half a day in our boat until we reach Kaimo, the first typical Asmat settlement. Here we have lunch in the traditional men’s house. Afterwards we spend another 1 hour in the boat until we reach the Asmat village of Yasakor. The men’s house of Yaosokor is probably the biggest house of its kind in the whole Asmat. We set-up our tents and our kitchen at one of the fireplaces inside the house. (by motorized canoe 4-5hours)
DAY 4: WOWI – SUATOR – KOROWAI (B/L/D)
In the morning we leave Wowi village and follow the river Upstream along the Siretz river and Brazza River. Upstream the strong current makes our journey much slower. Time for lunch in a small warung in Soator or another good place on the way to Mabul. After lunch we continue to Mabul, a settlement of the Korowai tribe. We build our tents inside of the local house. (by motorized canoe 7-9hours)
DAY 5 – DAY 8: TREKKING THROUGH KOROWAI TERRITORIES (B/L/D)
We will spend these 4 days adventure is some of the most pristine lowland rain forest in the world. We will visit several "rumah tinggi” and its inhabitants. We will choose the most accommodating spot to spend more time there thus we’ll be able to take a closer look at the daily life of Korowai and learn their – sometimes shocking - customs. Be ready for getting wet and dirty! Our way will go through huge swamps and rainforest The group will be at all times accompanied by porters and a local guide / hunter hired in the first village. During the 4 days in the jungle, we will not only visit several settlements cut off from civilization, but also have a unique chance to experience the beauty and menacing power of one of the wildest stretches of rainforest in the world. We may spend the time in one or two place if there is something unusual. The participants will get an opportunity to admire the untouched flora and fauna, learn a few basic rules of survival in the jungle, possibly with a chance of going hunting. We’ll also see how to make sago, build a trap for a wild pig. On the last day from the forest we will walking back to the first village we visited
DAY 9: JUNGLE - RETURN TO DEKAI / BRAZZA RIVER (B/L/D)
Early in the morning return to the Mabul village. Farewell to the porters and repacking our equipment. Half-day-long boat trip on the Brazza and Siret River back to Dekai and stay at basic accommodation in the town of Dekai.
NOTE: If not possible to reach Dekai today, we will stop on the edge of the river which is about 3-4 hours to reach Dekai. We will stop and spend the night in this place to escape the long boring journey where accommodation in a local house in Sepanaf/Patipi Village or its surroundings.
DAY 10: FLIGHT TO WAMENA (B/L/-)
depend on the weather conditions. Arrive in Wamena & drive to the Hotel for our accommodation. The rest of the day is free to relax after an exhausting expedition. Today's dinner is not included, so you can choose your own food in several simple local restaurants not far from hotels that provide local & Indonesian food. Accommodation at Hotel in Wamena town.
DAY 11: BALIEM VALLEY - SALT SPRING (B/L/-)
In the morning we drive up to Jiwika in the central Baliem Valley. Our one hour trek begins at the base of the mountain and ascends 300 meters through a beautiful rainforest, reaching the traditional salt spring of a Dani clan. Clothed in their traditional costumes, the native inhabitants will demonstrate the old techniques of the salt production. Following the demonstration, we will have our lunch on the mountains base then walk down to a Kurulu hamlet, where a very old mummy of the famous Dugum clan is proudly presented for your viewing. Afterwards the women show us how the brought brine is processed. In the vicinity we will see more picturesque hamlets. Everywhere the friendly natives offer their arts and crafts, weapons and curiosities for our inspection. In the afternoon drive back to the Hotel. Lunch in Box is provided and Accommodation at hotel, dinner will be on your account
DAY 12: BALIEM VALLEY – SUROBA – JIWIKA/PIG FEAST WITH DANI TRIBE (B/L/-)
We begin our tour to Aikima in direction to the northern part of the Baliem Valley. Few kilometers from Town by drive to Aikima village to explore the Local traditional people of baliem valley. Along the way you will find the Danis working in their sweet potatoes fields and will see their daily activities. Arrive at Suroba, walk through the pine forest, enjoy the beautiful nature setting and crossing a bridge over Aike river before you arrive at the main road where the car is waiting for you. We will hike in 1-2 hours through the beautiful countryside and traditional houses of Dani people.
In Jiwika, we will see how the Dani tribe carries out special events, namely how they celebrate victory through the performance of a Pig Feast and Traditional dance among the Dani tribe. The tribe member will assemble wearing their best outfit to show their appreciation. The Tribe chief will stand on a Traditional Observation and give the order to his people to celebrate. “A Pig Feast" is one of the most interesting exhibitions you will see on traveling to Papua. Dinner will be on your account. Accommodation at Baliem Pilamo Hotel or similar.
DAY 13: FLIGHT TO JAYAPURA – LAKE SENTANI/CITY TOUR (B/L/-)
After breakfast, transfer to airport for your flight to Jayapura at schedule at 08:00am or 09:00am. Upon your arrival at Sentani airport of Jayapura by car drive from the Airport to Teletubis Hills which is located on the edge of Lake Sentani towards the opposite city of Jayapura in about 15 minutes. From the parking lot you have to walk to reach the maximum height so that the Enchantment of Lake Sentani is more visible and amazing which is surrounded by hills. Here you can enjoy the beauty of Lake Sentani and its surroundings. 30 Minutes drive to Kalkote Dock to have a local boat for excursion at Lake Sentani, we could do a lake tour 1-2hours in the this lake by seeing local people with their traditional life. Walk around and seeing the local people of Sentani tribe making & selling their arts, bark painting, neckles, and variety of handy craft. Lunch at Local restaurant near lake Sentani.
On the way to get to downtown of Jayapura, about 20 minutes away from the city center we will stop at the TVRI Transmitter. From this height the view of the city of Jayapura is very charming with the wind blowing you into the memories of the history of the second world war in the city of Jayapura when the Japanese army controlled the city of Jayapura, formerly called Hollandia as the provincial capital of Netherland New Guinea. You will be amazed after being in this place, saying that Jayapura City is a city of memories that cannot be forgotten. Dinner will be on your account. Accommodation at hotel in the town.
DAY 14: JAYAPURA DEPARTURE (B/-/-)
After breakfast at your hotel, by car transfer to the airport leaving Jayapura for Sorong, Makasar, Jakarta or Denpasar.
